German Shepherd Dog Rescue Houston adopt GSDRH Texas TX GSD dog adoption shelter animal puppy 501(c)3 non-profit volunteer
Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GHGSDR)
We are a 501(c)(3) exempt volunteer organization dedicated to saving as many German Shepherds in the Greater Houston, Texas area as humanly possible --based on current resources of available foster homes, the rate at which we can find suitably matched adoptive homes, and, of course, financial resources for veterinary care.

GHGSDR Shepherds mostly come from animal shelters where they are awaiting euthanasia. All of these Shepherd Dogs need loving, forever homes and families to call their own. We have several GSDs available for adoption and we regularly take more homeless German Shepherds under our wings and into our Rescue Program, increasing the numbers of German Shepherds available for adoption. Whenever we can, we also work with other dog rescue groups in Texas and nationwide to help ensure the safety and security of these wonderful animals.
Houston, Have You Heard?
German Shepherd Dogs are tremendously popular, and Houston is a huge city...these combined facts create a problem for area GSDs as many are surrendered to local area shelters or go without adequate housing and care.
Thus, German Shepherd Rescue and adoptions are more urgently needed in Houston, Texas. We are very pleased to announce that Rescue and Adoption efforts continue for area Shepherds! This dispells the myth ... Yes, there truly is a dog rescue organization in Houston for German Shepherd Dogs -- and you've found us helping these Great GSDs currently in need of our care. Greater Houston German Shepherd Dog Rescue may be a new rescue group, but our volunteers are very dedicated to enhancing the possibilities for brighter futures and new beginnings -- one GSD at a time!

GHGSDR Guardian Sponsorship Program
GHGSDR is excited to announce a program that will allow individuals, families, and businesses to sponsor one of the many dogs who come into our group for rehabilitation and adoption into their forever home. The Guardian Sponsorship Program is a financial contribution that helps with the life-saving medical treatment, expenses, and care that are required to save these wonderful dogs and place them in the perfect forever home.
Please consider joining the GHGSDR Guardian Sponsorship Program. Your contributions will not only save lives, but also bring joy and happiness to GSDs like Snow and Bella who have previously known nothing but pain, suffering, and loneliness. SNOW IS ADOPTED!!!
Meet Snow.... Snow is the worst case of animal cruelty that Greater Houston GSD Rescue has ever seen. Information circulated throughout the rescue community about an emaciated and mange infested white GSD that was at one of the local shelters. He was in desperate need of rescuing because of his condition and his time was running out at the shelter. The picture of this sweet boy tugged at many people's heartstrings -- looking at his sweet face and those sad eyes, we knew we had to do something... (read more)
The transformation of Snow has been miraculous and GHGSDR is ecstatic to announce that Snow went home with his forever family this past week! The group has received additional communication from Snow's new family detailing his easy merge into his new home as well as photos showing his joy! GHGSDR has included this communication below along with some of the pictures so that everyone can celebrate the happiness that Snow now knows. Enjoy!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. His [Snow’s] recovery must have been very challenging and also extremely rewarding; you are very special people to have helped save and nurture him along to the point that he trusts people again. Simply amazing! After I read all of Snow’s story yesterday morning, I had to get out of my office because I could not stop crying. It’s just amazing how people can be so good (you, your family and everyone with the Rescue group) and also so awful (a person who could perpetrate such awful things- especially to harm such a beautiful and sweet dog).
Sally also told me not to feel sorry for him and I think we are getting over that now. The great thing is that he had months of love and can now settle into a normal, happy life. We would love to have any pictures that you would care to pass along. He is already enjoying a short early morning walk with us and our dog, Merlie. We are being careful not to overexert or walk on hot concrete as we understand that he still has tender toes.
Snow is fitting in really well and we already feel that he’s part of the family. We promise to stay in touch with pictures and details. You are also welcome to visit anytime if you would like to do that. We will gladly give your hugs to him along with all of the puppy kisses and petting and love that we can share (lots and lots).
Fondly,
E.C. & B.C.
I want to second the gratitude that E expressed. We feel very fortunate to be able to be a part of Snow's life. I am not sure how to thank saints such as yourselves and the others in the rescue league. I guess the only way is to just pass along the love and kindness you all obviously have for these beautiful friends. You can certainly look forward to Christmas cards (and pictures) from Snow and [from us].
Please take care and keep in touch,
B.C.
We will definitely stay in touch with details and photos of this sweet guy. Our first day and night with him were perfect and the transition from Sally's loving home to our's was very easy.
Here are some pictures of his first day with us. He always has this big smile on his face and enjoys hugs and rubs. He gets along really well with our dog, Merlie and I think they are becoming pals.
I had never scrolled all the way down on the rescue site to read about Snow as my monitor at home displayed it differently; I thought it ended after the first set of pictures. The story and pictures of his past make it perfectly clear to me that your organization has worked a major miracle. Thank you!
We are so happy to be able to provide him a safe and loving home which is exactly what he deserves.
Again, our thanks!
E.C. & B.C.
